Hi Parker! Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your background?
My name is Parker Lewis, and I joined Finley almost two years ago as the first go-to-market hire. Before Finley, I started my career in finance, focusing on private equity fundraising at a boutique investment bank and then worked at an AI startup. I wanted to bridge my earlier career experience in finance with my more recent career experience in the startup world, so Finley ended up being a perfect intersection of the two.
What’s your current role at Finley?
I interact with borrower and lender potential customers, assess their potential needs, and help organize the sales cycle and partnerships.
What is your day-to-day like?
My day is very call-heavy, which I enjoy because I love interacting with different customers. Apart from calls, I give feedback to our product and capital markets teams, scope different use cases, and structure contracts.
What's your favorite part about working with Finley customers?
The private debt space is growing fast right now, so our clients are investing more in tech to ensure sustainable growth. I enjoy working with our customers, who are incredibly sharp and motivated. Whether they are ambitious founders or leaders in the finance and capital markets space, folks across the board want to be at the leading edge of technology. It's always fun to interact with super high-caliber people.
What do you enjoy most about working at Finley?
The people. Finley has a great team with a strong culture — everyone is willing to jump in and help. No one considers any task below them. It's just a really good culture that's been set from the top, and you can see it permeate the entire organization. Everyone has great personalities and is fun to be around outside of work, too.
What has it been like to experience Finley's growth over the last two years?
It's been really exciting. We constantly think about ways to become more scalable and efficient, which is the nature of a high-growth startup. Seeing us evolve our product, build our teams, and improve internal efficiencies to become a well-run machine has been fun.
What can a new hire expect if they join the sales team at Finley?
Expect to get thrown into the fire; it's the best way to learn. Our team is very hardworking, motivated, and team-oriented. New hires should be willing to learn, be in uncomfortable situations, and lean on internal folks who can help because everyone has been there before and is always willing to help.
Do you have a memorable moment or favorite project during your time at Finley?
I would say what's been really exciting is the sales product feedback loop. Just recently, we were catching up with a prospective customer we hadn't spoken to in a few quarters. When we showed them some of the product updates, they realized that we had built out many of their product asks from six months ago. They were just so excited to see how fast we could ship new product. It speaks to strong communications between product, cap markets, and sales.
What's something about you that not many people know?
I am currently training for the New York Marathon this fall. I enjoy all outdoor activities, like biking, golfing, and swimming. I also love stand-up comedy and often go to the Comedy Cellar in New York.
